What Tire Size for SCX24? Diameter, Width & Clearance Guide
Share
Choosing the right SCX24 tire size has a big effect on grip, ground clearance and crawler behavior. Just a few millimeters can change rubbing, stability and steering load.
1. Wheel size: SCX24 commonly uses 1.0
Many SCX24 setups use 1.0 wheels. Always check the wheel diameter listed on the product page before buying tires.
2. Outside tire diameter
A taller tire increases axle clearance, but it can also rub the body and change final gearing. As diameter increases, check clearance at full steering lock and suspension compression.
3. Tire width
A wider tire can add contact area but may rub links or shocks and can increase steering load.
4. 50, 54, 58, 60 or 64 mm?
Smaller sizes usually preserve stock clearances more easily. Larger diameters can improve clearance and obstacle approach but require more fitment checks.
There is no single best size: body, chassis, wheels and terrain all matter.
5. Check for rubbing
Inspect clearance around fenders, shocks, links and steering. The wheel should steer and compress without excessive contact.
6. Inserts and wheels
Tire diameter alone does not define behavior. Inserts and wheel stiffness strongly affect how the tire deforms.
