RC Crawler Brass Weight Guide: Where Should You Add Weight?

Brass weight upgrades are popular on RC crawlers because they can lower the center of gravity. But adding brass everywhere can hurt performance and increase mechanical load.

1. Why add weight low?

Mass near the axles and wheels can improve stability on climbs and sidehills. The goal is to lower the center of gravity, not simply increase total weight.

2. Knuckles, hubs and portal housings

Knuckles, hubs, portal housings and other parts close to the wheels are often used because they place weight very low. Always confirm exact axle compatibility.

3. Brass wheels and inner rings

Heavy wheels and brass inner rings add weight directly to the rotating assembly. This can improve stability but also increases load on the motor, steering servo and drivetrain.

4. Front or rear?

More front weight can help keep the nose planted on climbs, but too much front bias can make the crawler feel unnatural and overload steering.

5. Do not replace everything with brass

A very heavy crawler is not automatically better. Excess mass can slow reactions, increase power draw and accelerate wear on gears, driveshafts and servos.

6. Add weight gradually

Change one area at a time, test the crawler, then decide whether more weight actually helps.
