SCX24 Cut-to-Length Driveshaft: How to Measure the Right Length
Share
A cut-to-length SCX24 driveshaft is useful when a modified crawler no longer matches the stock driveshaft length because of wheelbase or axle-position changes.
Why use a cut-to-length driveshaft?
Chassis, link or wheelbase changes can move the transmission relative to the axles. An adjustable driveshaft lets you match the real installed length.
Measure at compression and extension
Never set driveshaft length with the suspension in only one position. Measure with suspension compressed and extended so enough telescoping travel remains.
Avoid a shaft that is too short
If it is too short, the shaft can disengage as suspension extends. Keep enough overlap between the sliding sections.
Avoid a shaft that is too long
If it is too long, it can bottom out under compression and transfer unwanted force into the transmission or axles.
Trim gradually
Remove a small amount at a time and test full suspension travel before finalizing the length.
